Introduction

On the 4th of October, 2024, Tsiyinu M/A Basic School held its much-anticipated Speech and Prize Giving Day, a celebration to acknowledge the academic and extracurricular achievements of the students. The event was graced by various dignitaries, stakeholders, and the local community, who came together to support the students and inspire future achievements. The ceremony, full of cultural displays, speeches, and award presentations, was a vibrant and memorable occasion.

 

Dignitaries Present

The program was chaired by Torgbui Awusu III of Afife, a revered traditional leader. He was ably supported by Mama Ayeley Ativeshie II, the queen mother of Tsiyinu. The event also saw the presence of the Director of Education for Ketu North, Mr. Raphael Amanyo, and his team. The head teachers of basic schools in the Ohawu and Afife circuits. Notably, the Dotsey-Manyo family, represented by various members, attended as special guests in honor of their family head's 70th birthday celebration.

 

Opening Remarks

The event commenced with a welcome address from the head teacher of Tsiyinu M/A Basic School, Seshie Mawuli Maxwell. In his speech, he expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, parents, and guardians for their continuous support of the school. He highlighted the importance of education in shaping the future of the students and encouraged both students and teachers to work together to maintain academic excellence.

 

The representative of Torgbui Ashabor II, the chief of Tsiyinu, followed with a speech that emphasized the role of the community in nurturing the younger generation. He called on parents to continue supporting their children’s education and urged the students to remain focused on their studies to achieve great things.

Award Presentations 

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to deserving students. The Dotsey-Manyo family, in commemoration of their family head's 70th birthday, presented awards to students who excelled academically, particularly those who placed first in their respective classes. This thoughtful gesture was a token of the family’s commitment to encouraging academic excellence in the community.

 

Additionally, Mama Ayeley Ativeshie II presented packages to students who exhibited remarkable discipline and leadership. The support was further bolstered by Empac-Emperors Academy, whose manager, Mr. Gideon Dagadu, handed out various items to students in recognition of their hard work and dedication.


 



Cultural and Entertainment Performances

The program was enlivened by several cultural and creative performances by the students. A simple yet impactful drama was acted by the students, focusing on a moral theme that resonated with the audience. Poetry recitations showcased the students' linguistic and creative abilities, drawing applause from attendees.

 

One of the most exciting parts of the day was the traditional 'Nyalegbedzi' dance. The dance, which reflects the rich cultural heritage of the people, brought color and energy to the event. Students also exhibited their choreographic skills through a series of well-coordinated modern dance routines that added a contemporary flair to the occasion.
